Opportunity Place, Inc., is the only low-barrier to entry temporary emergency shelter for families and single women who are homeless in Okaloosa and Walton county. Last year we served 217 women and families, including 111 children.
We provide safe shelter and supportive services for the chronically homeless and for those experiencing homelessness due to a negative event or situation that occurred in their lives. Whether a single female Veteran who has run into hard times, a mother and children fleeing domestic violence, a family evicted because their landlord did not pay his mortgage, or a grandmother who became homeless with her grandchild after being hospitalized – Opportunity Place, Inc. ensures these individuals are no longer at risk living in their cars, in the woods, or other places not safe nor intended for human habitation. But we don’t stop there. We work hard to help these families find permanent housing and the resources they need to be self sufficient.
Everyone deserves safe shelter and an opportunity to succeed in life. Our shelter doors are open to all families and women experiencing homelessness.
People need their basic needs met before they can address the complex issues that have led to homelessness. Our case management services are focused on housing and financial stability.
We keep families together. Case management is tailored to each family unit and our child services program addresses the unique needs of children who are homeless.
