DONATION NOTES

We can only accept seasonal gently used clothing at our Lovejoy Rd. Facility at this time. If you have out of season items you wish to donate:

Take cleaned, gently used clothing, housewares and linens to Good Will and say this is for the Opportunity Place Shelter. Our residents will receive vouchers to use towards their purchases. Good Will (850) 864-6677.

Furniture: As space is limited, please call before bringing furniture items or donate large items to Fresh Start's Repeat Street in our name. Repeat Street Thrift Store (850) 200-4006.

Please remember this is a stressful situation for families, especially children. We cannot accept dirty or broken items, especially clothing and broken toys.

Funds:

Funds pay the light bill, the insurance, the program supplies, the essential needs of residents, office supplies, literacy training materials, and the incredible staff that works 10-12 hours a day, six days a week, to make Opportunity Place on the happiest spots in Okaloosa County. Donate Online Now!

People:

1) Volunteers to provide recreational activities for children on the weekends; offer support to adults seeking to improve skills, resumes, employability, see that shelter rules are enforced even in the absence of paid staff; and that meals are delivered and served on time. Shifts from 8-noon; noon to 4, 4-8 are available both weekend days.

2) Intake volunteers: Many people come for assistance. While staff deal with crisis situations, volunteers are needed to work with persons with more patience and composure – getting them started on the intake process, reviewing documentation needs, prioritizing the needs being presented. Answering the phone is an enormous benefit also.

3) Later afternoon / early evening: Ensuring dinner hour goes smoothly, that everything is clean and neat before residents leave the area, watching the kids play and talking with the adults. Should a potential client come, check to see if there is room, and help get them settled in the unlikely event space is available, or help find them an alternative place if there is not.

4) Groups, such as churches, civic groups, non-profits, Bible Study classes, and individuals to bring dinner either on a one-day –a month day basis; a one-day-a quarter basis, or just one day. Dinner may be brought at any time before 5. Residents can store and warm dinners to be served at 6.
