OUR MISSION IS TO HELP WOMEN AND FAMILIES, WHO ARE HOMELESS, ACHIEVE SELF-SUFFICIENCY.

OUR HISTORY

The doors of Opportunity Place, Inc., opened in 2009, under the umbrella of Okaloosa Walton Homeless Continuum of Care/Opportunity Inc, and in May 2015, became our own non-profit corporation - Opportunity Place, Inc.  Throughout this time, our mission has remained the same: to help women and families, who are homeless, become self-sufficient.

From the beginning, Lenore Wilson along with Lydia Barton and other dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to help those who were homeless. To that end, in late 2008, the buildings at 305 Lovejoy Road in Fort Walton were purchased to provide temporary emergency housing for women and families.  This was made possible with the support of Okaloosa Community Development Corporation (CDC) and the State Housing Initiative Program (SHIP).

In July 2009, the very day the Shelter received its’ Certificate of Occupancy, five adults and fourteen children were provided with a safe place to stay, a meal to eat and a promise of better days ahead. Since that day, we have never turned back.

A PLACE OF HOPE.
